Release Notes - Winter Roundup 2025

Paper Mode Update

With the removal of our standalone Knowledgehook Teacher app from mobile app stores due to a loss of functionality and a renewed focus on a seamless browser experience, one result is that Papermode will no longer be available as it was built exclusively for our native app. Fragments of Paper Mode remained on the site in the form of dead links, download buttons, and old guides. We have gone through the site to remove these retired links.

While we currently do not have a replacement for Paper Mode, we hope to bring it back in the future with a revitalized mobile Teacher app. In the meantime, if your class has a low device-to-student ratio, you can run a GameShow as the Teacher and use a single device to answer GameShow questions after polling your class on what answer to choose. Host the GameShow on your computer and join it as a student on your mobile device to be the sole student answering the questions and progressing through the GameShow.

Email & Account Updates

We previously encountered an issue where teachers who unsubscribed from our emails were also no longer receiving essential account-related communications, such as password reset requests. To resolve this, we've updated our process to ensure that transactional emails, like account updates and password resets, are always sent, even if a teacher has unsubscribed from other types of emails.

We’ve created a blocker to prevent accounts with a Student role from being able to add a Teacher role through Google registration. This update will help prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.

Mission Updates

In mid-January, we encountered a brief bug where Missions with no future start date failed to launch immediately as expected. This issue was caused by an internal date/time error and was resolved within a few hours. After the fix, all Missions launched correctly, and any Missions affected by the bug were launched later in the evening unless manually corrected by the teacher during creation.

Custom Activity Updates

Since the start of the school year, we had a bug where a question added to a custom activity and then deleted would remain "invisible" in the activity. The question couldn't be re-added, and trying to move other questions around the deleted one caused errors. All of these issues have been resolved, and deleted questions now delete correctly. They can also be re-added while editing a custom activity.

User Interface Updates and Bug Fixes

  • Resolved a bug that prevented students from seeing the numbers they typed in the class code box during sign-in.
  • Removed the unlinked light bulb icon when viewing a Report that only held hover text.
  • Updated the "I can" statement fragment to be localized according to the Class/Course language. Previously, "I can" sentences appeared in both English and French if the class language did not match the account language setting.
  • Fixed an issue where older classes that were automatically upgraded to ClassOS Pro could become downgraded if a new class was created. If affected, older classes may still be downgraded and need to be fixed, but this bug will not continue to create new incidents in the future.
  • Fixed a bug where Freeform Question Answer Reports on Parent's pages were not rendering correctly.
  • Introduced a new user interface for creating custom activities, allowing teachers to select individual questions from their Question Bucket. Instead of adding all three questions in a set, teachers can now choose specific questions to include in their custom activities, making it easier to tailor content to student needs.
  • Removed the Impact Challenge box from the Focus Areas page to create better page navigation.
  • Information involving discontinued programs has been removed from the Math Shop page.
  • Fixed localization issues for Focus Area and the Gap Detail page dropdown menu.
  • Fixed translation issues with the Account Settings in Teacher accounts as well as a dropdown menu interaction with the UI.
  • Previously, when downloading PDF versions of Student Login ID Cards for classes with more than eight students, the document would cut off at the bottom of the page. This issue has been fixed, and now all student details will download properly without truncation.
  • Fixed a bug where large manipulatives did not scale down properly to fit the screen width of the device being used. The submit button, which was sometimes hidden, will now remain visible and accessible across all screen sizes.
  • Fixed a bug where a Progress Report panel appeared on student profiles even when there was no progress data. The panel will now only appear if progress data is available.
  • Fixed missing images for Logical errors on the newly formatted Gap Reports page. When the page went live, certain images did not transfer over and had to be fixed.
  • Fixed the missing class code prompt in GameShows for Rostered/SSO accounts. When inviting students, the Class Code was removed from the page as students do not use it to log in for SSO and Rostered classes, but it was returned in case there were guests invited.
  • Fixed a translation issue in the Teacher App Class Settings page for French and Spanish.
  • Fixed miscellaneous bugs with Manipulative 2.0 type questions.
