Class Code Updates

QR Codes

Students using devices with cameras can now log in directly to their Knowledgehook accounts with a unique QR code that includes all necessary login information. Learn more about QR codes

Seven-Digit Class Codes

Class codes have been updated from six to seven digits to enhance safety. In Canada, class codes will always start with the number 1, while other countries will have different starting digits.

Class Registration

Upon class creation, registration is turned off by default. This means students cannot join the class with a class code unless registration is opened. Guide to opening and closing registration to your class.

If your class was imported from Google Classroom, students will only log in using the Google login button. Do not share the class code, as they won’t need it. If a Google Classroom imported student tries to use the class code, they will be prompted to log in with Google instead. Guide to Students logging in with Google.

Please note, that if you imported a Google Classroom to Knowledgehook and chose not to use that class, you cannot import the same Google Classroom into a new class. To import a different Google Classroom, contact us to remove the limited sync.

Student Privacy and Login Process

As part of the new QR login feature, we initially updated the login process to better protect student data and privacy. This change removed the option for students to select their name from a list before entering their password, enhancing student privacy.

Students can now log in via Google (if enabled for their class), using the QR code, or by entering their specific username and password directly—rather than selecting their name from a list and entering a password after using a class code.

Based on feedback, we have reinstated the name selection option. However, we will revisit this option, or a similar option, in the future to protect the privacy of our students.

Downtime and Server Instability

In September, Knowledgehook experienced multiple outages and periods of lag, primarily in the mornings, due to an unexpected surge in the use of Missions and GameShows. These disruptions impacted the stability of the platform, but each issue was addressed and resolved as quickly as possible. Since then, the instability has been fully resolved, and there have been no further instances of downtime or lag.
